I am still awake, yep, at quarter to four in the morning. Part of that is due to another issue (which I will talk about in another post), but, the other part of that is due to a weird anniversary. The night of the 18th/morning of the 19th was the longest night of my life two years ago.
Step One:
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered…whatever you’re comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun (“I’d love a Snape/Hermione icon that’s just for me”) to medium (“I wish for _____ on DVD”) to really big (“All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.”) The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it’s your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it’ll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two:
- Surf around your friendslist (or friends’ friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here’s the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it’s in your heart to do so, make someone’s wish come true. Sometimes someone’s trash is another’s treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don’t want or a gift certificate you won’t use—or even know where you could get someone’s dream purebred Basset Hound for free—do it.
You needn’t spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn’t to put people out, it’s to provide everyone a chance to be someone else’s holiday elf—to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not—it’s your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just…wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you’ll have the joy of knowing you made someone’s holiday special.
Paxie's Addition: Make a list of wishes for your friends!
My wishes:
1. A new Macbook Pro so I can work on Squeecast, edit videos for Team GEEK, and do so much more awesomeness for ARFTCo, and even teach with it.
2. A new sets of kitchen pots, ESPECIALLY a new dutch oven or two (it's what I make stews in, and what I make krispies in).
3. A freelance job, or some other job in my career path.
4. To finish collecting my Buffy (thru Season 4), Angel (thru Season 1), or Charmed (thru season 2 or 3) DVDs.
5. Someone to actually buy some of my scarves or duckies, and to spread the word on how cute they are!
6. Book Five in Seanan McGuire's Toby Daye series. Can't afford the new one and it is driving me nuts, especially knowing she just started writing the seventh book!
7. Amazon.com gift cards, or Home Depot gift cards to finally work on and paint the house this year (it's been ten years!).
8. A fandom story just for me!
9. Bookshelves. I;m talking like the five shelf ones or big ones, and they can be the cheap $20 ones from Target or Walmart, or one you are getting rid of. I have a lot of books and I don't want them in boxes anymore. I want to show off my rare books as well (Might make
10. A donation to my Relay For Life page.

3. A better job on campus for
4. A job in the Chicago area for
5. A better job for
6. A job for my aunt - she knows accounting and stuff!
7. Good health for all my friends and family, and success in all our weight loss endeavours.
8. Agents for all my writer friends.
9. Good times, great stories ("Hahahaha! Ding!"), and the ability for more of us to get together this year. Travel will be made!
10. A donation to help my awesome team, Team GEEK, reach their goal and help fight cancer.

In the meantime, so much awesomeness happened that I want to squee about you with! Where should I start? There will also be pictures, and stories! (Like getting trolled on by Peter Davison, or someone else actually coming up to me and saying how much they love my panels - made me fly!) And, I even have an idea for an article after leading the Crossplay panel last year and this year. There were some passionate and talkative people, and even if nothing was "decided" on in those panels, I have a feeling something was started, something good...
Other good news, whatever was evil and plugging my writing - including a bunch of self doubt - got negated this weekend and I want to WRITE, and to CRAFT, and TO DO STUFF! I am so excited. How excited? I want to make my family proud, I want to make my (unofficial) mentors proud, and I want to make myself proud.
Hold on folks... it's going to be a bumpy, but OH SO FUN ride!

I am putting a challenge out to my followers! Today I am going with Dad for a follow up with his urologist. Twice a year every year since his fight with prostate cancer he goes in for these check-ups to find out if he is still lucky enough to remain in remission.
The doctors put him into the "cure" category, but there is still that chance. He has had prostate cancer, and fought skin cancer at the same time. I love my Dad, and despite days like today being routine, I still approach them with trepidation. I am afraid of the cancer returning. I don't tell him this, amazed at his ability to face his medical struggles head on and still crack his corny jokes. Days like this he is an inspiration to me.
I also know several friends who have lost Mothers and Fathers to cancer, and I know friends whose parents are going through the fight right now. My heart will always be with them. I hug my Dad whenever I can, thankfully he is still here.
I mentioned a challenge earlier. I would love it if my followers clicked the link and could donate even a couple of dollars to Relay For Life.
My Personal Relay For Life Page
Do it for my Dad. Do it in honor of those we have lost. Do it so no one else has to see their parent fight this disease. Do it so we won't have to take our place in the battle against cancer. Every dollar makes a difference.
And if you can't, I understand, times are a but rough. Then do me another favor. Hug those close to you. Give your Mom or Dad a call, tell them you love them. Remember those we have lost, who are never far from our mind. I know I will. I'll be at my Dad's side in this fight - always.
Always, love.
